Barcelona, Day 1: Arrival

Finally, we arrived at Barcelona airport before 4:00pm. The airport looks like a shopping mall. It is sparkling, airy and new with many retail stores.

We didn't browse the stores because we were really tired. After taking some pictures, we followed the sign to take the airport shuttle to the city. There was an information booth with helpful staffers directing us to go down the circulating belt to take A1/Aerobus. Aerobus takes you to Plaça de Catalunya, the center of Barcelona. Our hotel was just steps away from Plaça de Catalunya.

The shuttle came quickly without much waiting. The ride was inexpensive, less than 6 euros per person. It was a short ride about 25 minutes.

When we got off the shuttle at Plaça de Catalunya, I wasn't sure where to go. It's a wide open space  and I couldn't seem to find the street. Thankfully, I saw an information booth again. You can't miss it, it has a big i sign. We went there to ask for directions so we didn't have to drag our luggages around and check the streets connected to Plaça de Catalunya one by one. After that, we quickly walked to the hotel and checked ourselves in.

As you probably already know that Barcelona is the capital city of Catalonia, the autonomous region in northeastern Spain. Catalan and Spanish are the official languages they speak here. It seemed to me Barcelona tourism industry is very organized, they set up information booths at the tourist hot spots and the staffers all speak decent English to help you. The next few days in Barcelona, I found my first impression of Barcelona to be very accurate.
